Travel

A car trip is always a special event. I find myself doing a lot of research in order to get from one point to another in a car. Recently I decided to make the five hundred mile trip from my house to the windy city of Chicago. Somehow I overlooked the fact that Chicago can turn into a windy and snowy city in the winter months. I rented a standard car, packed my bags and started my adventure at four in the morning on my departure day.

The weather was clear and the temperature was a cool thirty-eight degrees. I guess the day I picked for the trip was a trucker’s holiday, the interstate was almost empty as I cruised along at seventy-five miles an hour listening to the nostalgic sounds of the 80’s on my XM radio.

As I got closer to the windy city, it started to snow. It was one of those lake-effect snows that hits the city in the winter and creates havoc on the roads. Almost immediately I found myself surrounded by trucks and cars that were stopping and starting, slipping and sliding. For next fifty miles I inched along at twenty-five miles an hour asking myself why I chose to make the trip in the first place.

Then I saw the billboard that changed my thoughts. The sign read: The sun’s always shinning at Costa Rica Reisen & Hotel Buchen, come join us now! I stopped the car, called the number and made my reservation. My next car trip was to the airport. Thanks to my snowy Chicago car trip, I found paradise waiting for me on a billboard.
